Christmas, Kwanzaa, NYE! December 15-January 25 post surgery...

My family was strategic in my post surgery care. They set me up in our basement, knowing full well that I was not to do stairs! Well played.  I could not say the last time I just sat. On a couch. And did nothing. It was super frustrating at first. Then it was glorious! Our friends and family were overwhelming in their support and we didn't have to cook for two weeks. I just watched Christmas movies and ate food. And read books and eventually played card games with the kids. And did a puzzle. And I slept whenever I was tired and wow, I really love naps. And Porkchop would come snuggle. It was a very lovely cocoon of warmth and healing.  The doctor did say I needed to be up and moving a little, so I did very shot walks on our treadmill, conveniently located in the basement. and short walks to the bathroom, also in the basement. By day 5 I could get up the stairs but was still too uncomfortable to sleep in our bed. By day 8 I felt better and could sleep in my comfy bed again.

I was very excited to get to do things before the surgery! The youth group at our church had a night of caroling at assisted living homes and houses of parishoners.

I had packaged up gifts for my leadership team in November and we had a lovely end of semester event with students.

We received a really cool and grand box from Ellie with lots of boxes inside, full of treats! It was like those nesting dolls.

Auntie Hallie sent me a photo of her with Santa.

We had a holiday game night and invited friends over for homemade Vietnamese vermicelli bowls.

Matt sang in a community choir and had three outstanding performances. We attended one and as always, we were floored by his talent :-)

Porkchop continued to be spoiled and happy.

Then surgery! This was my healing spot in the basement.

I eventually made it upstairs to the living room! Where I sat on a different couch.

I ordered this puzzle from UnCommon Goods in early November and it was so cool! The most beautiful advent puzzle. Every day was a gift to open a mini puzzle and then all of the puzzles came together for one big winter scene.

Matt and the girls went sledding. I was sad to miss out, but they sent me videos and pics.

My first venture outside was to Christmas Eve Mass.

The girls left treats for Santa.

We do Christmas crab for dinner.

Kwanzaa began the next day.

My second outside trip was to R.O.P.E.s Kwanzaa event. I was not allowed to help with anything for set up but I did get to sit at the desk and hand out programs. It is nice to feel useful. The girls did a great job with their parts.

Porkchop did not mind his hat.

The obligatory black eyed peas to usher in the new year.

My favorite NYE meme. So accurate.

Matt and I celebrated our 17 year wedding anniversary with dinner out.

And I was fully recovered and thoroughly enjoyed packing away all of the decorations, cleaning the whole house, saging the house, and putting out Valentines Day decorations.

The church youth group went tubing at Bosquet mountain. Which is 10 minutes from the house.

After you clean your room...

This evening Cassidy revealed to me a small secret to keeping her occupied. After dinner she asked me if she could watch a show. We don't have tv, but we do have netflix through the wii on our tv and we watch all the greatness that PBS and Nickelodian have to offer! Except for Caillou because I think he's kind of whiny. Anyway, she gets to watch limited amounts of Diego, Dora, Dinosaur Train, Super Why, Word World, etc and sometimes we throw in some Cosby Show for good measure. She'll pick two shows and watch one, 20 minute episode of each and then we call it good. Well tonight when she asked for a show, I told her she could watch one episode of her favorite after she cleaned her room. She went into her room and as she started putting toys away, she started playing with them. She'd go to put books away and start "reading" them. Twenty minutes later she'd start putting crayons away, then start drawing with them. Ten minutes later she'd start putting awa...

Back 2 School 2024/2025

The start of a new school year is scattered and quite full as we begin the fall with a bang on multiple campuses.  We gave Savannah a few options for her start to middle-school. She was at WES for 3 years and had made a solid, core group of friends- super strong connections! All of them were headed to the zoned school of Greylock regional, grades 7-12. Going to Greylock wither friends would mean we would have to drive her, school choice does not provide a bus. It would mean she could not do all the things because of the commute and our schedules, her options to get involved would be limited. If she chose to go to the school we were now zoned for, she would be walking distance to Miss Halls and could do alllll the things- go for it! Join every club, try out for the plays, do all the sports.  Y'all already know, Savvy chose her friends lol. It is hard. And she is so happy. And never complains, because she understands with this choice, her options are limited. We have been ...

The Weekends

The weekends have a new meaning to me now.  Saturdays are the perfect day because I get unlimited access to Cassidy. During the week I have to share my time between work, chores, tasks, and more. Sunday we have church and prep time for the week. But Saturday is magical. Saturday is for adventures in the park and incredible views in the mountains you can only reach by foot. Saturdays are for sleeping in or getting up early and making a big breakfast. Saturdays we sometimes stay in our pajamas, and others times we get all dressed up for no reason. On this particular Saturday Cassidy and I met up with some friends at church for the first End of Summer Fair. We had a good time...
