Saturday ice cream and Sunday canoeing to Hope Island

A surprise sunny weekend led to road trips all over the Olympics this weekend.  We drove out to Quilcine to see a used camper. I proclaimed two years ago that I was done sleeping on the ground because it hurts! Then last year, I said I was done setting up tents in the rain. Fingers crossed we'll find just the right used camper for this upcoming summer ;-) While I'm not sure if we'll be buying this one, I am sure it was a gorgeous drive! A highlight: HoodSport Coffee and ice cream. On Sunday we joined friends Sam, Natalie and Nora on a canoe adventure to Hope Island. They were gracious and lent us a canoe, paddles, and extra life vests. Plus, they knew the area so well and we just hopped along for the ride! The island has an orchard, so we picked apples and ate them as we walked the trails through the forest. We saw only a handful of people on the beaches. Two seal sightings and lots of jellyfish made for quite the adventure!

Cousins Sleepover

How excited were we that Genevieve was coming for a sleepover?!?!? Eeeeeek! Our niece, Matt's sister's baby, is so cute. That isn't even the word. Darling. Precious.  Think of the most saccharine adjective and apply it here. Her little voice. Her walk that is still a little unbalanced, and a half run. The names she uses for things because she can't yet fully enunciate. Her affection for naps and bedtime! Her parents think we did them a favor, but I am telling y'all, they did us a favor! The girls had fun playing with their little cousin. Savvy got to be a big sister, Cass got to practice empathy with someone not Savvy :-) Maybe it was the novelty of having her over, but there were no tantrums. For anyone! We played outside, we played with Shorty, we went to a children's festival and did arts and crafts, we read books, we watched movies, we ate and ate and ate.  We are looking forward to the next time we can do a favor for Emily and Chris ;-)
