Picking up a real tree after Thanksgiving is a tradition. As it is for lots of other families too! We have gone to tree lots, driven to the woods and cut down our own, and visited farms. Driving to the woods and cutting a tree was by far the least expensive. I think we paid a $10 fee to the forestry? But, it was quite the adventure and we got stuck! That was a onetime thing. This year, we went to Whitney's farm.
We started baking pies over a week ago. Had to taste test! This one did not make it 24 hours.
Current favorite recipe has ginger as one of the spices.
Before MHS closed for the week, we went to dinner.
We had a Beat the Blues Spirit Week at work. Monday was comfy cozy day. It was fun to plan the days with my staff. We picked themes that seemed easy to do with what you have. The other days were plaid, cardigan, hat, and spirit day. The potluck was real good too!
A small group of our staff volunteered with the United Way at the largest food pantry in the county. Their staff shared with us that they would had 2,000 individual signups for pickup or delivery.
R.O.P.E. also got into the spirit, the girls helped pack meals one Saturday morning.
Our student athletes and athletics staff work over the holidays. We cheered on the Trailblazers at a home womens ice hockey game and at a mens basketball game.
Don't mind the guest behind us! lol. A roadtrip to Trader Joes also found us hit up the cutest donut stand! What you see in these photos is it. You walk in one door, order at the counter, then walk out the other door. After decades, this family owned business had it down to an art! 49 different flavors. We tried 8. All delicious. Not pictures is Cass, who opted to sleep in and hang out with Porkchop rather than wake up at 6:30a. Not to worry, she texted us her favorite TJ snacks!
Porkchop was gifted a smoked bone that smelled so delicious, I jokingly told Buffy if he didn't like i, I would use it in soup! ha! He loved it.
Waffles for thanksgiving breakfast! And a few other things....
We often drive past this restaurant called Zucchinis and Savvy always says we should go for their pizza. Well, there was no pizza, we enjoyed a pretty good meal! It was lovely to eat there and then hit the road to Manchester, VT for a couple of days.
The room they had us in did not have a functioning heater. It was the first real snow of the season and the hotel gave us an upgrade! We had packed board games and sandwiches for dinner since most places were closed by the time we got in town.
We hopped over to a hotel down the street and picked up day spa tickets on the cheap for Black Friday! The pool was not as warm as I would like it per se, but the rest of the fam had a real good time, and workout! I thoroughly enjoyed the steam and sauna rooms tho.
The hotel we were staying at was supposed to have a free continental breakfast, but when we arrived in the lobby, there was really nothing there. The place with the pool had an onsite restaurant with amazing breakfast potatoes!
After our pool time and late breakfast, we headed to the pinball museum! We legit spent hours playing games. So many games. And they had other games outside of pinball! We hadn't been in a while, probably since last summer (2023?). It is one of Matt's favorite places.
After pinball, we hit up a new restaurant in town: Nong's Kitchen. We will definitely return!! A small dim sum menu, was fantastic!
And finally, we did make a full Thanksgiving meal on Saturday night when we got back home so we could have leftovers for a few days. It was a lovely week of family, friends, and fun. With lots of time to reflect on what we're grateful for. And lots of uninterrupted time together, which was a real treat. Both Matt and I refrained from work emails for three whole days- a miracle indeed!
