Tired, but here!

We have had three successful quarantine-cuts! I don't like to clean near the ears, so I do the haircut and Matt does the hair by his ears. This way, if he gets cut, I'm not responsible! lol
Hey Fam!

Haven't done a blog post since week 4 of homeschool! We finished 15 weeks last Friday. Whew!
Y'all, this is not sustainable. Glad we did it, glad we made it, and it was hard! And we have so many resources! I do not have the energy or mental space to address all the things, so, below are pictures with captions. And they are not even in any kind of order. I think our technology is so overworked and tired, it was not ready for this amount of usage!
Stay safe. Wash your hands. Wear a mask. Don't be a racist.
The end.

Every couple of days the sun comes out! And we trek over to the lake in our neighborhood. It is usually quiet in the morning.

Narwhals have really become popular in our home over the last few years! Part of Matt's father's day present were these self warming slippers.

When the lake has too many people to safely social distant, or the people there are not wearing masks and their kids are just running all over, we pull out Coral, the narwhal sprinkler!
Look! My foot is in a picture!

I separated the batter, added different levels of cocoa, and this three layer cake was insanely good.

I made a small batch of frosting, so it was not overly sweet either!

Part of our homeschool was a puzzle board. If the girls did a good job handling conflict, staying on task, finishing chores, they pulled of a puzzle piece. 7 weeks in, they had the puzzle uncovered and earned a tablet and headphones.

When it's not raining, we are grilling!

Matt swam across the lake for the first time this week! When he made it back to the dock, he said, "It's been a long time since swim team in high school."
Silly.

Did a quick drive through the school parking lot to collect Cassidy's things and say goodbye. She graduated 5th grade in 3 minutes. I did not fully process it till we got home. Wow. She is a middle schooler!

When we open a can of pears, we use the juice to make popcicles.

Car parade decorations stayed the whole trip!
Lemon cream cake. Light and fluffy and creamy goodness!

Why is she so tall?

Harry Potter themed virtual birthday party was a lot of fun!

I bake a lot when stressed...which means we eat a lot of pie, cakes, and bread!

Silly part 2

She is 11!

Made some birthday doughnuts. They take 4-5 hours to make, 2 minutes to fry.

"Can I please have a regular picture, sans silly?"
"Yes, momma"

Peep these layers of apples! Must have been talking about budgets at work that day!

Homemade fathers day cards are the best. Budding little artists....

We won't be headed to universal studios any time soon, but the online options to enjoy harry potter are pretty great!

We wrapped fathers day gifts, then the kids decorated the wrapping paper.

Homemade maple pecan granola. Super easy and quick to bake. Lasts for weeks!

These dogs don't know what to do with us home every day, all day! LOL. How is this even comfortable?

More quiet time at the lake.

Lake time even when it's cold with no sun. Long as we can get outside and the kids can run energy out, we are good.

After 15 weeks, we ventured outside to a large park for a social distance hangout with friends who we trust and know have been just as anxious about quarantining as us!

I made it into another picture! Also, this book was great. Highly recommend.

Using costumes from Auntie Ellie to create a theatre play. In this scene, we are at a cafe, trying to buy a glass of water. That's all the cafe sold, water.

R.O.P.E. in Accra, Ghana- July 2024

Joining Rites of Passage and Empowerment (ROPE) has been key in helping us find community out here in the Berkshires. No sugar coating- this county is both white, rural, conservative, racist and full of theatre, music, the outdoors, and pockets of loving, open-minded people. Massachusetts may be the most liberal state in the US, but we are far from Boston. Here, minutes from New York and Vermont, the sounds of performative equity can be heard from the tone deaf school administrators who "don't see color" and have voiced that "race was not an issue till we brought it up", to the lack of representation in politics, restaurants, stores, and general day to day. We have lived in places across the country, and have yet to stumble upon a place that felt fully welcoming. I don't say this to complain, it is merely a statement of my lived experience thus far and an acknowledgement of the work it takes as a Black woman to make friends, have meaningful relationships, g...

After you clean your room...

This evening Cassidy revealed to me a small secret to keeping her occupied. After dinner she asked me if she could watch a show. We don't have tv, but we do have netflix through the wii on our tv and we watch all the greatness that PBS and Nickelodian have to offer! Except for Caillou because I think he's kind of whiny. Anyway, she gets to watch limited amounts of Diego, Dora, Dinosaur Train, Super Why, Word World, etc and sometimes we throw in some Cosby Show for good measure. She'll pick two shows and watch one, 20 minute episode of each and then we call it good. Well tonight when she asked for a show, I told her she could watch one episode of her favorite after she cleaned her room. She went into her room and as she started putting toys away, she started playing with them. She'd go to put books away and start "reading" them. Twenty minutes later she'd start putting crayons away, then start drawing with them. Ten minutes later she'd start putting awa...

Back 2 School 2024/2025

The start of a new school year is scattered and quite full as we begin the fall with a bang on multiple campuses.  We gave Savannah a few options for her start to middle-school. She was at WES for 3 years and had made a solid, core group of friends- super strong connections! All of them were headed to the zoned school of Greylock regional, grades 7-12. Going to Greylock wither friends would mean we would have to drive her, school choice does not provide a bus. It would mean she could not do all the things because of the commute and our schedules, her options to get involved would be limited. If she chose to go to the school we were now zoned for, she would be walking distance to Miss Halls and could do alllll the things- go for it! Join every club, try out for the plays, do all the sports.  Y'all already know, Savvy chose her friends lol. It is hard. And she is so happy. And never complains, because she understands with this choice, her options are limited. We have been ...
