Vegas Vacation 2018!

One full week in Vegas with family and friends? Don't mind if we do! Some of y'all know I don't like Vegas. It is hot beyond belief, or frigid, because it's a desert. Growing up in Vegas was not easy and it's just not my go-to vacay destination. Alas, my momma and stepdad continue to live there, so we continue to visit!

This trip was purposely in June to celebrate their wedding anniversary, both of their birthdays, and Aunt Dean's birthday (may she rest in peace).  Aunt Rene, Uncle Mark, and Cousin Hannah flew in towards the end of the week, continuing on to California so Hannah can visit college campuses. Eeek! How is she old enough to be looking at colleges???

It was lovely to take the girls to a magic show thanks to Matt's friend Tequia. And if you grew up in Vegas, you probably had field trips to Red Rock, Ethel Ms, Ocean Spray, the marshmallow factory, Mt Charleston. Hoover Dam, and the Dolphin/Tiger Habitat at some point.  In the short week here, we took the girls to the dam and the animals. It was surreal to see the modernization of my childhood. To say so much has changed would be an understatement!

We bought a baby pool at target and filled it with cold water every day. Even in the shade the water would heat up, making a once cool respite into a hot tub! We dumped the water out and timed it...14 minutes before it had all evaporated.

Matt and Jon went along with my wish to eat at Honey Salt. It was more than delicious!! I had salmon over a pea risotto and couldn't stop eating. I was full and did not want to stop! The plate was deceptively large, but don't worry! I ate the leftovers for breakfast. Not to mention, this restaurant had the most beautiful, homey decor. All farmhouse chic and fresh with the "rustic charm" paired with chandeliers. While every time I am blessed to see my friend and have more than surface level conversation and reconnect with a beautiful person who has always been there for me, continuing to be someone I look up to and admire and love hanging out with, is a good time; having that good time at a good restaurant made it all the better! :-)

Honey Salt is too fancy and too $ for the kiddos, so to Sweet Tomatoes they go. This was a day jam packed with fun, hanging out with our family. (I realized I forgot to ask if I could share pics of Terri, Roni, Che, and Sawyer, so for now there aren't any here, but once I confirm with them, I will update.)
Every Vegas trip requires a visit to Bouncy World. This trip had two visits in the same day, followed by popcorn while watching Incredibles 2.

Momma taught the girls a card game called pitty pat.

Matt went up on stage at the magic show to "test" the chains that held the magician in place for his water trick.  While the magician was great, our family loved the backup performers. They did an aerial bit and a dance with a huge metal circle that showed such strength and skill, we were blown away.

Tequia and her husband met us after the show at NYNY for some ice cream. Funny story: the ice cream shop has seating outside of the coyote ugly bar and dance place. You can just see the red rope in the corner of this picture. The loud music flowing out to draw people in was remarkable clean and fun, so a dance party ensued in our seated area. The chocolate statue was also a fave with the girls.

Aunt Rene, Uncle Mark, and cousin Hannah made it into town! They got in super early and we went to breakfast. I don't know about this sudden emphasis on burgers at the IHOP, but we stuck to pancakes and breakfast. They do that so well!

The dolphins and tigers were a treat to see! While my parents and Hannah's parents went and did something, we spent hours at the Mirage. We left the strip once the snacks in my bag ran out, and had lunch at the Shake Shack in Green Valley. It was the first time the girls tried custard and they were huge fans. Later that night Karl, grilled outside in the heat and Stacy came over. We forgot to get a pic with Stacyface, but loved seeing her!

Hoover Dam has a delightful tour through the power plant. When I was a kid, the tour was not this extensive, nor was the actual visitor's center. It felt so safe! No one in our group was eager to walk across the bridge, so we skipped that part.

I realized, like most trips, we did not take as many photos as we could. But we got one with friends! Taken by a kid. :-) The girls were running around and we got to catch up with Chrissy and David.

I can forgive the unbearable heat, when we get to be with family and friends <3 nbsp="" p="">
See ya next time!

After you clean your room...

This evening Cassidy revealed to me a small secret to keeping her occupied. After dinner she asked me if she could watch a show. We don't have tv, but we do have netflix through the wii on our tv and we watch all the greatness that PBS and Nickelodian have to offer! Except for Caillou because I think he's kind of whiny. Anyway, she gets to watch limited amounts of Diego, Dora, Dinosaur Train, Super Why, Word World, etc and sometimes we throw in some Cosby Show for good measure. She'll pick two shows and watch one, 20 minute episode of each and then we call it good. Well tonight when she asked for a show, I told her she could watch one episode of her favorite after she cleaned her room. She went into her room and as she started putting toys away, she started playing with them. She'd go to put books away and start "reading" them. Twenty minutes later she'd start putting crayons away, then start drawing with them. Ten minutes later she'd start putting awa...

Back 2 School 2024/2025

The start of a new school year is scattered and quite full as we begin the fall with a bang on multiple campuses.  We gave Savannah a few options for her start to middle-school. She was at WES for 3 years and had made a solid, core group of friends- super strong connections! All of them were headed to the zoned school of Greylock regional, grades 7-12. Going to Greylock wither friends would mean we would have to drive her, school choice does not provide a bus. It would mean she could not do all the things because of the commute and our schedules, her options to get involved would be limited. If she chose to go to the school we were now zoned for, she would be walking distance to Miss Halls and could do alllll the things- go for it! Join every club, try out for the plays, do all the sports.  Y'all already know, Savvy chose her friends lol. It is hard. And she is so happy. And never complains, because she understands with this choice, her options are limited. We have been ...

The Weekends

The weekends have a new meaning to me now.  Saturdays are the perfect day because I get unlimited access to Cassidy. During the week I have to share my time between work, chores, tasks, and more. Sunday we have church and prep time for the week. But Saturday is magical. Saturday is for adventures in the park and incredible views in the mountains you can only reach by foot. Saturdays are for sleeping in or getting up early and making a big breakfast. Saturdays we sometimes stay in our pajamas, and others times we get all dressed up for no reason. On this particular Saturday Cassidy and I met up with some friends at church for the first End of Summer Fair. We had a good time...
