Cassidy Grace turns 6!

It is wild to think that today, 6 years ago, before closing was to begin in Sierra Hall, I went into labor with Miss Cassidy Grace. Being that child's momma is a joy that exceeds the most eloquent of words. She is such a little lady!

For her birthday she requested a garden themed party. So we broke out our RA programming skills folks.
- One large, hand drawn, life-sized garden gnome for pin the hat on the gnome? Check.
- Markers to draw on all windows? Check.
- Food ordered and help enlisted to set up? Check.
- Tables and chairs rented? Check.
- Invites created from random pack of foam flowers found at Target? Check.
- Butterfly pinata filled with candy leftover from Easter? Check.
- Terra cotta pots from the dollar store to paint? Check.
- Paint? Check.
- Seeds to plant in the pot? Check.

All supplies, materials, rentals, and food for 20 kids and 18 parents total...drumroll...$170! That was some good shopping! We had Cass' favorites...hot dogs, watermelon, baked beans, popcorn....and the night was beautiful! Thank goodness, because all of these people would not fit inside our house.

I loved that one parent in particular accidentally went to the wrong party a few houses down. They walked in, got settled, realized the party was almost over, asked someone when it started and where Cassidy was, found out it wasn't our house, then calmly walked out and found us! That is awesome.

Special shout out to our friend Christie Peck! She was in town for the weekend for a training (she is a PA) and staying with us. She was super helpful in transporting the rentals and setting up. Thank you Christie!!

I love that Cassidy's birthday is around, and sometimes on, Mother's Day. We had a great time at church and then watched Cinderella. It was Savannah's first time in a movie theatre and all three of us were enchanted by the film. So beautiful! The Frozen cartoon beforehand was a treat!

And today Cass took muffins to school and had a special dinner. Her birthday has lasted two weeks! She feels pretty special. And she should, because she is as smart as she is sweet and as beautiful as she is sassy.

Cassidy is 6 years old and almost done with her first year of kindergarden!! I still can't believe it. And I look at my other friends who have kids the same age and just marvel at how wonderful they are. I'm so glad she has nice friends to grow up with :-)

After you clean your room...

This evening Cassidy revealed to me a small secret to keeping her occupied. After dinner she asked me if she could watch a show. We don't have tv, but we do have netflix through the wii on our tv and we watch all the greatness that PBS and Nickelodian have to offer! Except for Caillou because I think he's kind of whiny. Anyway, she gets to watch limited amounts of Diego, Dora, Dinosaur Train, Super Why, Word World, etc and sometimes we throw in some Cosby Show for good measure. She'll pick two shows and watch one, 20 minute episode of each and then we call it good. Well tonight when she asked for a show, I told her she could watch one episode of her favorite after she cleaned her room. She went into her room and as she started putting toys away, she started playing with them. She'd go to put books away and start "reading" them. Twenty minutes later she'd start putting crayons away, then start drawing with them. Ten minutes later she'd start putting awa...

Dancing

Cassidy loves to dance. So far, any type of music gets her going! In this video we were cleaning the kitchen when she decided to break out. When she saw the camera she started saying cheese because she thought it was a real camera. I hope you can see it!

NASPA @ NOLA 2025

I am very excited to get to serve on the annual conference team for NASPA 26 in KC! As part of the planning team, we have several onsite meetings. One is at this year's conference to be in transition with this year's team. Several of my staff members were able to attend the conference as well. Below are some photos with friends and colleagues who I was so happy to reconnect with!  The rest are notes I took from a few sessions. I as going to delete them, then thought, y'all might be interested in some of the random things always on my mind and in process. Take a peek! Also, NASPA stands for National Association of Student Personnel Administrators. While there opportunities all year long to engage with different groups and regions, in person and online, the annual conference is the premier event where you can learn and hang out with over 6,500 of your peers in higher ed work!  Notes: The balance of crisis management and change management is ongoing. Rest is essential. Decisio...
