Vegas Weekend!

It was a super quick visit, but an enjoyable one all around! The weather was perfect for the drive. We did get a little turned around on our way down,; there is a fancy turnabout in Fernley! But we made it safe to Mom & Karl's house. After 12 years of living in Denver, they decided to retire back in Vegas. I campaigned heavily for them to come to Reno, but their perception of how much snow we get won out.

No worries, grandma and grandpa have plenty of space for us to visit them! I was freaking out about the bunk beds in their room,  but it was pretty perfect and the girls did fine.  Cass and Savvy were way excited to discover the treasures located in a purple, owl covered trunk. Dolls and toys abound! And all of that shall stay at their house for the next visit ;-)

We were lucky to visit with some friends while in town! It was a super quick trip with the purpose of attending a wedding on Saturday night. I'm really happy we got to see Che, Stephen and Terri and finally meet Sawyer on Saturday! He was adorably sweet and wanted to hug Savvy. To Daddy's delight, Savvy was not into the hug so much. We'll see how long that lasts. Daddy may still sit outside in a rocker with a glare and a gun one day!

Sunday we got to see Chrissy and David and all three of their girls! Each one, stunning! Five girls in the house running, playing, and screaming was a good time! They all magically appeared at the table when lunch arrived. Then melt downs started to announce nap time. It is so nice having friends with kids who don't stress over the outbursts and just get it! One kid is crying? No biggie- we got it.  Doesn't even matter whose kid or which one, every parent jumps in, consoles, and moves on!

Steve and Judi's wedding was beautiful! Their vows made me cry. And with the grandparents watching the girls, it was a pleasant night out just the grownups!  Other than one blurry shot my momma took of us, we opted to not take the camera and just be and have fun and focus on them. They had a photographer so we're looking forward to seeing the pictures later! The food was great, the dancing was on point, and the company at our table was awesome! A+ for tabel seating/placement. I hope we get a chance to hang out with them again!

The drive home was great. The Nevada desert is stunning and when you watch the sun set and see shooting stars and the mountains turn dusky pink, it's just magical. And driving through some of the old mining towns is a bit creepy. But no speeding tickets for us! And the girls were great the whole way. Good snacks, movies, games and books made for a lovely drive.

We got in pretty late Sunday night and by the time Matt and I actually got to bed it was almost 1am. I didn't feel tired though, because of the buzz around what was happening on Monday. The first day of kindergarten...

After you clean your room...

This evening Cassidy revealed to me a small secret to keeping her occupied. After dinner she asked me if she could watch a show. We don't have tv, but we do have netflix through the wii on our tv and we watch all the greatness that PBS and Nickelodian have to offer! Except for Caillou because I think he's kind of whiny. Anyway, she gets to watch limited amounts of Diego, Dora, Dinosaur Train, Super Why, Word World, etc and sometimes we throw in some Cosby Show for good measure. She'll pick two shows and watch one, 20 minute episode of each and then we call it good. Well tonight when she asked for a show, I told her she could watch one episode of her favorite after she cleaned her room. She went into her room and as she started putting toys away, she started playing with them. She'd go to put books away and start "reading" them. Twenty minutes later she'd start putting crayons away, then start drawing with them. Ten minutes later she'd start putting awa...

Dancing

Cassidy loves to dance. So far, any type of music gets her going! In this video we were cleaning the kitchen when she decided to break out. When she saw the camera she started saying cheese because she thought it was a real camera. I hope you can see it!

NASPA @ NOLA 2025

I am very excited to get to serve on the annual conference team for NASPA 26 in KC! As part of the planning team, we have several onsite meetings. One is at this year's conference to be in transition with this year's team. Several of my staff members were able to attend the conference as well. Below are some photos with friends and colleagues who I was so happy to reconnect with!  The rest are notes I took from a few sessions. I as going to delete them, then thought, y'all might be interested in some of the random things always on my mind and in process. Take a peek! Also, NASPA stands for National Association of Student Personnel Administrators. While there opportunities all year long to engage with different groups and regions, in person and online, the annual conference is the premier event where you can learn and hang out with over 6,500 of your peers in higher ed work!  Notes: The balance of crisis management and change management is ongoing. Rest is essential. Decisio...
