Vanessa and Aunt Sue sent us links to a Kid's React about THE Cheerios commercial featuring a multi-racial family.

After a few minutes of watching it, I decided to invite Cass to watch it with me. After the first few questions I would pause it and ask her the same questions. Her responses were pretty similar to the kids' responses. After the commercial I asked Cass if she notices that her momma and daddy look different.
Cassidy said:
"Yeah, but it doesn't matter because you guys love me and you love Savannah and we're Team Smith and we don't give up ever...And you guys don't ever give up loving each other or me and my sister and you'll never give up being married to each other and you'll always love us and that's it."
Then I asked her if she liked the commercial.
Cassidy said:
"It's funny! But she made a big mess. I can't make messes like that."
Finally I asked her what she thought of people who didn't like that the family in the commercial because they were a multi-ethnic family just like ours.
Cassidy said, "They're mean. But I guess we have to like them anyway, right? Because everybody is supposed to love everybody."
That's our girl.

In other news, today was a great day at the family fun tent in the park! I really cannot express how thankful we are to be able to attend these free daily music classes taught by the Wiggleworm school. I picked up one of their brochures and with those prices, we will not be registering for a fall class. But we sure will attend as many of the free ones throughout the summer as we can!!
Other fun things to do in the tent include hula hoops and playing with chalk, drawing on easels and story corner, building stuff and whatever activity the sponsor of the day has planned.
Good stuff Chicago!
Even in the heat and humidity, we can't resist a run around the bean (Cloudgate). It is trippy.
Finally, our morning ended with an early lunch at Matt's building. The service is excellent. They always offer to carry our tray, help with the baby and change the tv to anything Cass wants to watch no matter who else is in the cafeteria.
All of the pics will be up soon....They are on FB, but for some reason not showing up here to upload. Thanks for your patience!

Her respond made me tear up. Team Smith is raising such incredible women. What a proud moment!
ReplyDeleteThere are many times, sometimes several a day, when I am amazed someone allowed us to have children because of the mistakes and failures and questionable decisions we make as parents. But this five minute conversation sure did get me misty and feel like we are doing something right! Maybe we won't totally screw them up after all :-)
ReplyDeleteMy new mantra- CTFD. Thank you Nicole Shimabuku!
Wow!!! Cassidy is one wise little girl.
