Trinity Episcopal church has a Palm Sunday tradition of joining with the Methodist and Lutheran churches that are within walking distance, meeting at the park, bringing in Poncho the donkey, and having a quick joint service before processing back to our individual churches. It is quite the event! This year I didn't see the Lutheran church, causing me to think maybe I invented that? Anyway, the part that is pertinent to the ceremony for me is when they read, "On this day he entered the holy city of Jerusalem in triumph, and was proclaimed as King of kings by those who spread their garments and branches of palm along the way. Let these branches be for us signs of his victory, and grant that we who bear them in his name may ever hail him as our King, and follow him in the way that leads to eternal life."
