At today's doctor appointment we hit a milestone! I have never weighed more than 120 lbs and today I hit 136! And my stomach is measuring 26 inches at 26 weeks. This means that the baby is happily growing and healthy- and that's a huge relief :) The last test we took came back negative- another plus because that means no diabetes.  Matt and I are just getting over being sick, though I'm still coughing a lot. So doc gave me a pretty strong cough syrup script to take at night. And finally, my belly button used to be an innie, then it was flush with my skin. Now it's starting to become an outie, akin to a turkey timer!  I imagine it'll "pop" before she's ready, but it's another one of those things that people don't tell you when they talk about being pregnant...
It's a girl!

Not for the Faint...

Even though I was starting to get bigger, I don't think Matt and I really believed it until we went to the first OB appointment. I was at first worried because they didn't ask me to drink anything before the appointment. Thanks to media, I had this preconceived idea in my mind that I  would have to drink a lot of fluids before the appointment so that they could see the baby once they lubricated my stomach and cruised a mouse-type device along my belly. Well I was certainly surprised when the dr walked in, had me remove by bottoms, then pulled out a wand. A very large wand with a condom on the end. I looked at Matt, he looked at me, we looked at doc. And timidly I asked just where he thought that was going. Turns out they can do ultrasounds vaginally! Well ok. I almost wish this whole scenario was filmed from my end. My feet were in stirrups, the doc was shining a light and using the "wand" and Matt was shoulder to shoulder with him, fascinated as doc found my ovaries,...
For those who really know me, years of dance and cross country and hiking have always produced a flat stomach. Even when bloated, one would never be able to tell. Well that started to change fairly early on!
When we decided to not try to not get pregnant we thought it might take a while. We were prepared to wait a couple of years for something to happen. Well, funny how you think you have a plan, then God says "Ha!" because 6 weeks later we were pregnant! When we figured it out we were making a grocery list and it sounded like this, "Ginger ale, fruit, a pregnancy test, toilet paper...wait." And Matt looked at me and I looked at him and we knew! It was weird. So we tried one test and immediately the lines showed up. I didn't trust it though so Matt bought three more of different kinds. Then we went to our dr after the weekend and it was confirmed that we were 7 weeks pregnant. I think we were both in shock. It was exciting but also unbelievable.
