Fundraising for Ghana 2024!

From Ms. Shirley Edgerton: I am pleased to share with you that beginning  July 8 through July 19, 30 Rites of Passage and Empowerment (R.O.P.E.) scholars and ambassadors (pre-R.O.P.E. members) will have the opportunity to experience a life-changing experience in Accra, Ghana.  They will engage in service-learning projects, embark on a cultural exchange with students of the University of Accra and Ghana Educational Collaborative program and tour historic sites. Another highlight of this cultural and educational journey will be to visit the homesite and museum of Berkshire native, esteemed sociologist and civil rights activist,  Dr. W. E. B. DuBois.   R.O.P.E. was founded by a group of professional women in 2010.  It is a proven mentoring program for young women of color and young people identifying as female or non-binary.  The mission of R.O.P.E. is to celebrate and honor the entry of adolescents into adulthood and provide them with skills and knowledge that they need to be successfu

Family Weekend at Miss Halls

Cassidy is thriving in her new school. She is in a community that has space and access to intentionally and thoughtfully live out its values.  While a return to on campus living was not in our plans, it has allowed us to be nearby as she dances along the edges of independence.  Matt has a front row seat to daily life at the school, and was chauffering to Savvy's soccer game while I got to be the parent of a day student who is also a resident for the two day event.  Friday night's concert was a mix of choral and instrumental pieces. SO much talent! It's the second time Cass has played Sir Duke in a concert and she seemed very happy with her performance. She knew we were, as evidenced by our cheering 🤗 On Saturday I got to be a student! I went to all of her classes for 20 minutes for a real lesson. I usually interact with her teachers in a social setting; eating meals together, attending events, going to the adult wellness stuff, random hallway conversations. Getting to see

April 2023- Nassau

Living on the east coast with intl airports a few hours away has changed my air alerts. Now, I get alerts for all kinds of places I have never considered being within our range! If roundtrip tix are under $300 a person, I'll look a little closer. If the destination is in a close or the same time zone, I might follow it. If we got a little extra from me teaching a class, and Matt finishing a Smith&Smith project, and some points or free hotel nights set to expire, I'm totally hitting purchase! 😂 Good example: back in April we spent 4 days in Nassau, Bahamas. It was beautiful! Can't go wrong being so close to water. Hues and shades of blue for miles and miles.  The airbnb had a well stocked kitchen and there was lots to do within walking distance.  It was our first time doing a cultural walk and food tour. Our tour guide was fun and welcoming! We visited 5 places, she told us story after story about people and families and traditions and so much history!!!  I was dumbfoun
