42

I turned 42 this year! Last year we went roller skating. This year we celebrated Chinese New Year at Tu's popup, went out for sushi, went out for pizza, and started working on our house.

Yes, we will be moving....again.

When we moved to Miss Halls last year, it was not only a requirement of Matt's job. It was an opportunity to save and build a dream home. So we started the process and did not get very far lol

The land was a beautiful spot with a stunning view. However, there was a small length of wetlands that completely changed the buying process. We had never done this before. There is no helpful guide on how to do this. We were stumbling through multiple inspections, ambiguous town codes, and contractors who don't call you back for small jobs. Our was considered not worth the effort by the first 5 builders we spoke with. We wanted a small, 3 or 2 bed, 2 bath home under 1300 sq ft. We did end up connecting with a really cool modular builder and started down that road. However, we never actually closed on the land. After many months, bleeding cash, we called it quits. It was sad, and it was such a relief!

We got some of our deposits back from the engineer, architect, home builder, realtor, town, wetlands engineer, and lawyer. Then we said, let's look one more time. And look at God! Won't He do it? We drove by an open house, walked in, and said, yes, this can be home for right now. Not a forever home, but a home while the girls finish high school. I cannot ignore the privilege inherent in our ability to have these choices. And, I won't ignore the work on our end it has taken to be able to buy a home (We both recently joined the 800+ credit score club! woo!)

On my actual birthday, we worked on the house as a family. Ripping up carpet and nails, painting, and celebrating this space we are lucky to call home.

During birthday weekend, the girls and I had a great time at the R.O.P.E. mtg, I had dinner with two dear friends who also have February birthdays, and I read two books. A wonderful way to kick off my new year!

After you clean your room...

This evening Cassidy revealed to me a small secret to keeping her occupied. After dinner she asked me if she could watch a show. We don't have tv, but we do have netflix through the wii on our tv and we watch all the greatness that PBS and Nickelodian have to offer! Except for Caillou because I think he's kind of whiny. Anyway, she gets to watch limited amounts of Diego, Dora, Dinosaur Train, Super Why, Word World, etc and sometimes we throw in some Cosby Show for good measure. She'll pick two shows and watch one, 20 minute episode of each and then we call it good. Well tonight when she asked for a show, I told her she could watch one episode of her favorite after she cleaned her room. She went into her room and as she started putting toys away, she started playing with them. She'd go to put books away and start "reading" them. Twenty minutes later she'd start putting crayons away, then start drawing with them. Ten minutes later she'd start putting awa...

Dancing

Cassidy loves to dance. So far, any type of music gets her going! In this video we were cleaning the kitchen when she decided to break out. When she saw the camera she started saying cheese because she thought it was a real camera. I hope you can see it!

NASPA @ NOLA 2025

I am very excited to get to serve on the annual conference team for NASPA 26 in KC! As part of the planning team, we have several onsite meetings. One is at this year's conference to be in transition with this year's team. Several of my staff members were able to attend the conference as well. Below are some photos with friends and colleagues who I was so happy to reconnect with!  The rest are notes I took from a few sessions. I as going to delete them, then thought, y'all might be interested in some of the random things always on my mind and in process. Take a peek! Also, NASPA stands for National Association of Student Personnel Administrators. While there opportunities all year long to engage with different groups and regions, in person and online, the annual conference is the premier event where you can learn and hang out with over 6,500 of your peers in higher ed work!  Notes: The balance of crisis management and change management is ongoing. Rest is essential. Decisio...
