Tired, but here!

We have had three successful quarantine-cuts! I don't like to clean near the ears, so I do the haircut and Matt does the hair by his ears. This way, if he gets cut, I'm not responsible! lol    Hey Fam! Haven't done a blog post since week 4 of homeschool! We finished 15 weeks last Friday. Whew!  Y'all, this is not sustainable. Glad we did it, glad we made it, and it was hard! And we have so many resources! I do not have the energy or mental space to address all the things, so, below are pictures with captions. And they are not even in any kind of order. I think our technology is so overworked and tired, it was not ready for this amount of usage!  Stay safe. Wash your hands. Wear a mask. Don't be a racist.  The end. Every couple of days the sun comes out! And we trek over to the lake in our neighborhood. It is usually quiet in the morning. Narwhals have really become popular in our home over the last few years! Part of Matt's father...

We Made it Through 3 Weeks of Team Smith Surprise Home School!

How y'all doin? It has been a wild 3 weeks. Matt encouraged me to stop looking at my IRA..."Think long term!" he likes to remind me. I encourage him to not argue with trolls on the internet..."They aren't real!" I like to remind him. We are quite the pair. ;-) Work has continued. "Home School" has continued. Our lil' family is doing just fine. A little stir crazy. But just fine. We have pretty much stuck to our routine, Monday-Friday. There have been a few bumps as we navigated work meetings that happen simultaneously. And a few tears when a small child feels overwhelmed by all of the changes in our world. The routine has been our saving grace. Now, it's not for everyone. We always say, every family does what they need to do, to be successful. And that looks different for every family. I feel a need to reiterate, we aren't encouraging others to follow suit. Just sharing how we're doing, what has been working, and cheering on ...

Week 1 of Team Smith Surprise Home School

Sweet corn on the cob it has been a week! Makes for an especially long blogpost, but first... Mini-rant: We have laptops, wifi, arts&crafts, headphones, snacks, dogs, a backyard, a front yard, neighborhood kids, supportive work from home situations, health insurance, and no gaps in pay. And this week was hard. I can't imagine the hurt, the trauma, the losses others in our community and all over are experiencing right now. Our little family has been reminded once again of the work that we need to continue to fight disparities, lift up equity, and above all else, show love to our neighbors. The idea that one can be a-political is so steeped in privilege and denial, it's cruel. I'm hoping that others feel called to act more than ever as this pandemic continues to expose our lack of humanity on a global stage. Call your senators, write your legislators, and good gravy, please vote!! Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.... Team Smith Surprise Home School has been qui...
