Visit with the Granparents and Aunt

Matt's Parents and sister Emily and my Mom came to meet Cassidy...

The Birth of Cassidy Grace Smith

Here are some photos of Cassidy a few minutes after she was born, a few hours, a couple of days. I'm sure by now most of you have heard the story of how it happened, but for those of you who have not.... on Tuesday, May 12 I was hanging out with my friend Terri (who just had a baby boy two days ago!) and she said she had heard that red raspberry leaf tea could  cause contractions.  By this point, I was so done being pregnant that I had gone to yoga classes and walked miles and miles over the weekend and was bouncing on an exercise ball and had felt not a twinge! I like tea. So Tuesday night I had 5 cups of tea. I'm not saying that's what did it, but hours later on Wednesday, May 13 I woke up at 1:30am and felt something. Then I felt it again several minutes later. I woke Matt and told him I thought I might be having contractions. He looked at me and said, "Just Breathe." Then he promptly fell alseep! He doesn't remember this two sentence conversation.  I waite...

Cassidy Grace Smith!

Hello friends and family! Ms. Cassidy Grace Smith made her entrance this morning (her actual due date) weighing in at 6 lbs. 15 oz., and is 19 inches long. Contractions started at 1:30 a.m., and after a nice soak in the tub and a backrub, we made our way to the hospital by 4:00 a.m. Mrs. Smith was able to deliver naturally at 9:20 a.m., and both Mama and Cassidy are in great shape and drug-free!   Enjoy a few pictures we snapped today of our darling daughter - more to come soon!

I finally got around to it...

At long last - a post from soon-to-be Daddy Smith!  I figured that if I finally got around to posting, maybe Cassidy would get around to being born. : )  Things have been intense, per usual, and I'm trying to determine what would be better: having Cassidy right now since we're so excited to meet her, or hoping she'll wait just a little while longer until finals are over. In any case, here are a few recent shots for your viewing pleasure: Here I am resorting to reading the assembly instructions after putting the bouncer together upside down :~/ ...and with the (eventually) finished product  Mrs. Smith posing after putting together the bassinet my Dad built for us - thanks again, Dad! Mrs. Smith's belly as of this evening   :-o Hopefully the next post will be pictures of our beautiful baby girl! Peace and blessings, Matt

Baby Shower

Cassidy's Baby Shower was incredible! Heather and Genet organized everything! We had a yummy taco bar and great treats provided by the guests. There are some seriously creative people! Dawn made baby cupcakes and used Vicky's place settings to display them. Bobbie did her cookies- always amazing and so cute. We played crazy games and Rita tried to cheat but she actually ended up winning one fair and square! Juls organized all the games and I think everyone had a good time. I am very thankful for our friends and family. Cassidy is going to be quite stylish  her first year! She'll have lots of toys and blankets and books.  We registered at Babies R Us and Target, but encouraged folks to reuse hand me downs too.  The hit of the party was definitely Chris's daughter Lexi. She was in a beautiful pink party dress and helped unwrap gifts.
Matt and I took photos on Monday.  It's been a busy week!
At today's doctor appointment we hit a milestone! I have never weighed more than 120 lbs and today I hit 136! And my stomach is measuring 26 inches at 26 weeks. This means that the baby is happily growing and healthy- and that's a huge relief :) The last test we took came back negative- another plus because that means no diabetes.  Matt and I are just getting over being sick, though I'm still coughing a lot. So doc gave me a pretty strong cough syrup script to take at night. And finally, my belly button used to be an innie, then it was flush with my skin. Now it's starting to become an outie, akin to a turkey timer!  I imagine it'll "pop" before she's ready, but it's another one of those things that people don't tell you when they talk about being pregnant...
